Makin’ & Shakin’ in Stevens Square

July 29, 2012 By Administrator

The first day of Red Hot Art festival was even more lovely than I expected. Making and selling art in the park on a beautiful summer day, with friendly people, dogs to pet, live music, and the smell of burgers. What more could one ask for? Well, okay, the burger smell got a little old after about four hours. And the alternating music sets on two stages with sound checks overlapping performances is slightly awkward – but they are short so you can just say “Hey, if you don’t like the live music at Red Hot Art, wait 25 minutes.” It is rainy right now but the weather forecast I’m looking at suggests it will clear up in an hour or two in time for us to open up at 11. The fun lasts until 5pm today. Yesterday we heard nice sets from Skunk Hollow, Jezebel Jones, and Bitter Roots. Today’s lineup includes Tiger V’s at 11 (they played at an Irrigate concert in the spring, I really liked them) and Fort Wilson Riot at 3. I have extra comfy lawn chairs and a great view of the upper stage so if you visit you are welcome to chill out with me as long as you’d like. Great people watching, too. Yesterday I saw a lot of people wearing butterfly or fairy wings. And someone in a neon green bra. Fun crowd.

This piece sold to a nice gentleman early on in the day yesterday.  He came by and looked at it several times before buying and was clearing scoping things out, on a mission.  I think he was actually roaming through before we were even finished setting up and open for business.
